This is my first time entering a text contest... I'm not sure what you mean by heavy handed, but my now 2nd grader went through a very, very, very similiar conversation to Santa on the phone last year (yes, a friend of the family plays Santa and calls every year to talk to my boys). Instead of it being his father, it was his Grandfather he lost. Every time we pass the cemetery, he insists that we stop so he can talk to Grandpa. It's really quite heart-wrenching. The worst time was when he told me he wanted to "die just long enough to give Grandpa a kiss". I'm sorry if I failed to follow the themepost, it wasn't intentional.

You mention the child in this letter is three, yet it sounds like a much older child wrote it. Obviously, a three year old can't write a letter, but I think this would have been better had there been more of a tone of a three year old.
