You made a good start but to go a step beyond the colorizing you need to begin to add secondary colors. Considering reading up on gradient maps for information on how different colors could be added depending on whether the base grey is light or dark

Wonderful piece, The amount of detail and information is so well integrated into a whole complete image that can be seen in several different ways. Well worth viewing in full though an even larger view would be nice. It would make an impressive print in large format

The pirate looks great! It's a shame that the netting in the back has some problems. Its seems as if they were roughly cut out from another location, and detract from the rest of the image.

It's a shame this didn't do better. This is a completely convincing believable image that should have easily earned a much higher score for it's outstanding photographic realness

It would be good to aoid google images unless you search for very large images that fall upon creative commons use. Otherwise www.sxc.hu or deviantarts' stock image section are good sources for good quality images
