I don't quite understand this one - it almost looks like an infrared effect was applied. The paleness of the colors on the foreground elements is too stark compared to the richness of the background trees. I'd be interested to hear your techniques to see if there's a way to accomplish the coloring a little more naturally.

Very nice use of light in this one. Although it does alter the picture somewhat, I appreciate that you kept the image's integrity by not adding elements to it. Great job on the details like making the building different colors depending on if the areas are in shadow or in light. My biggest critique would be that there is not the same attention paid to the gravestones and sky - making subtle color variations in these areas would really make them look as natural as the building does.

Nice color combinations! It looks a little "illustrated" with the boldness of colors, but it really makes it pop. The stained glass window is perfect! I wanted to get that kind of glow and assembly of colors, but fell short of this one. Very nice. I almost expect Dorothy and Toto to come skipping down that golden sidewalk. ;)

Lovely use of multiple colors on the building! What painstaking work. I wish there was more variation in the grasses and cast concrete elements, but that building really makes this one stand out. Nice job. :)

Nice job but I think you should have added the egg.

The order of the progression was photo, illo, text then photoshop. There *was* no egg until *after* the illo. ;)

Does your camera let you adjust exposure settings? If so, change the exposure to a positive number - .5 or 1. Then use whatever kinds of light available to you to direct light onto the object - flash light, lamps, etc. Turn off the flash, and see if that gives you a brighter image with no glare.

If it turns out too yellow, as happens when you use lamp light often (regular tungsten bulbs as opposed to flourescent types), see if there's a setting in your camera to adjust the white balance from "auto" to "tungsten" - it might also just be labeled as an icon of a lightbulb.

You can also brighten in any image-editing software. If you don't have Photoshop, try a free one like Gimp (www.gimp.org) - there's tutorials there too that will teach you to use some of the basic photo-editing tools to brighten photos and correct colors.

Hope this helps! Don't give up!!!

Makes me dizzy! Neat angle and subject. The crop to me seems just a bit too off center when it wants so badly to be perfectly symmetrical.

i definitely thought about cropping it perfectly, but i was really liking the darkness that leads into the stairs. thanks for the comment![/quote]

Oh I love that darkness at the bottom! This is definitely one of my fav's. I was talking about the right side being a bit more extended than the left. Just a tad bit. But that's negligible. Beautiful job. :)

What a great photo-op. Looks really neat in b&w, but I'd love to see a color version with more contrast.
