Today I’ll take a break from the horrors on TV
And the private wars I wage; that rage inside of me
No, now’s a time such thoughts will only do more harm
Today I’ll put my fear aside; turn turmoil into calm

I’ll seek the simple pleasures that in childhood gave delight
Nature was my playground, my outlook was still bright
I’ll watch a line of marching ants tireless in their toil
Or help a seedling find the sun, pull weeds that choke its soil

I’ll lie upon the grass and watch the clouds go by
And marvel in the splendour of the ever-changing sky
I’ll walk barefoot on the beach, gather seashells from the shore
Feel the sand between my toes as gulls above me soar

I’ll traipse across a meadow, picking daisies for a chain
or splash in muddy puddles, remnant of the rain
I’ll climb the ancient oak tree; gather acorns from the ground
Or tip-toe through the forest trying not to make a sound

I’ll make soap suds and blow bubbles; watch them fly away
Catch the shimmering rainbows, and like a child I’ll play
I’ll fill my day with joy and keep my distance from mankind
And seek the simple pleasures to ease my troubled mind

It’s an awful state of being
My dearest Evelyn
We lay here holding nothing
But blood and bones and skin

It's a strange and twisted tangle
That you and I are in
I’m having trouble seeing
Where I end and you begin

So what holds us here?

In this room without walls
Where any newborn feeling
Will only take flight
To crash into the ceiling

It’s a restless state of mind
This constant wondering
My thoughts are trapped in circles
And I cannot feel a thing

Who holds me here?

Is it you or is it me?
Help me out please Evelyn
I’m having trouble seeing
Where I end and you begin

Have you ever been kidnapped?
Taken out of your home?
Brutally shoved in a car,
To a far place unknown.

You’re totally tied up,
And blindfolded too.
You think to yourself,
“This just cannot be true!”

You are trembling loudly,
As they slap you for crying.
The pain makes you cry harder,
You feel like you’re dying.

You think to yourself,
“Why me! Why me?”
You are terribly scared,
That they will dump you in the sea.

Like in all the movies,
Where they kidnap the girls.
Then they call their parents,
And ask for 2 million pearls!

They give them a deadline,
They are usually short.
They don’t have enough time,
So they go to the last resort.

They call the police,
And tell them the story.
When they bring back the girl,
It’s a great moment of glory.

There is kissing and hugging,
And crying as well.
She is just so happy,
To have gotten out of that hell.

But will this happen to me?
Will I be rescued by the police?
Or will they kill me,
Even though I tried to make peace.

There are so many things,
That are going through my mind.
I wish I had a life remote,
I would just press rewind.

So I would still be at home,
sleeping peacefully in my bed.
Not hurt, scared or frightened,
Not crying, sad or dead.
