Thanks... and you're right, I probably should have linked to originals. I started with the Ghost In The Shell movie poster:

.. and drew in San's (the girl from Mononoke Hime) features by hand, from memory (so, I don't have an original for her, but here's a picture of her:

The basic plot, in reference to San: The Mononoke tribe was the wolf tribe, and the head of it had adopted a human girl, abandoned by her parents, to raise as her own. The movie is one of those nice examples of the depth of anime compared to US films in general, in that there was no "evil" or "good" side - many people did bad things for selfless reasons, or good things for selfish reasons, etc.

Ghost In The Shell is a movie set in the future where the use of cyborg technology is more common; a new advanced, brainless cyborg, for some unknown reason, suddenly becomes animated, and seems alive, but with no known human mind, no human intelligence - or "ghost" - behind it. It's a real "thinking" movie, with some famous action scenes... I'm pretty sure that the director who did it also made the Patlabor series, but I'd have to check.

The fur was the second to last thing that I did on the image, I'm glad that you liked it. :) (the last thing was having a digital-distortion appearence of a wolf reflect in the sunglasses). I did it right after I replaced the image of the city in the bottom with the image of Iron Town from Mononoke Hime. I copied everything that I wanted in front of it onto a separate layer, and then, behind that layer, painted two colors in an arc. I then put a new layer in front of the head, and continued with the area that I wanted to cover the head. I then merged it all, and took a small smudge brush and did strokes outward and downward, with different pressure settings.

The hardest part was actually replacing the gun ;)
