This is a Training Grounds level contest

In this contest, we're going to practice a specific composition type - that of composing for a square frame or crop. This is a basic technique when you want to fill your frame or create a more abstract kind of shot since it can be used to get rid of distractions around the main subject and emphasize the inherent shapes of your scene. Also, secondary elements and their position become increasingly important in the limited space.

Experiment with all kinds of composition techniques, and remember to look at the geometric properties of your subject as mysterio has done with his zesty "The Next Level".

Tip:
In most image editing software, to make sure your crop is exactly square, you can hold the shift key down while you use the crop tool or make a cropping selection.

Hit List:
Flowers, bugs and creepy-crawlies, pets. Use these and be disqualified.

Important:
The dimensions of the image should be square. We'll accept a few pixels extra on one side as long as the image looks square. Please don't flag images that look square but aren't pixel-perfect.

  • Photographs are to be max 200KB and max 1000px wide.

  • Please be aware of the New Photo Rules - here
  • Got a question? Ask in the Photography Forum :)
