This is the view I was hoping for when touring Kilauea's Pu'u 'O'o Vent last fall. Alas all was quiet and there was no spewing lava to be seen. So I decided to create my "dream" version showing a crater lake surrounded by much more active volcanic vents that have been steadily errupting for weeks. The owls have come to enjoy the show as much as the sightseers.

Please view full if you have the time. Compression of a horizontal image with red lava really wreaks havoc with the preview quality.
