Sometimes, but very rarely, it's the spotter on the boat who sees the most interesting things. http://www.cryptozoologysociety.org/cryptids.htm was my inspiration for the Giant Octopus. I figured that even such a reclusive creature would come to the surface to complain if someone drilled a hole in its living room.
