One of Michael Moorcock's 'Eternal Champion' characters from his vast series of books, Corum Jhaelen Irsei, is from an elf-like race in a setting with a lot of celtic influences. After being maimed by humans and losing one eye and one hand, he was given magical replacements: an alien god's eye capable of seeing into other planes of existence, and a 6 fingered jewelled hand able to reach into these planes and summon beings from them.I was influenced by re-reading relevent sections of the books themselves and by my memory of a small lead figure from over 20 years ago depicting the same character.Click here for a small WIP... in which you may notice a few last minute corrections when I realised I had put the patch on the wrong eye. Doh!View full if you want a good look at the hand drawn mail armour... layer styles to the rescue once again.
Elric of Melnibone... the sickly albino emperor sustained only by power drawn from his sentient, soul-sucking, demonic sword - Stormbringer. A creation of Michael Moorock, intended to be the complete opposite of all the muscular barbarain heroes popular in fantasy fiction. Here's a WIP
The Gunslinger is a novel by American author Stephen King, and is the first volume in the Dark Tower series, which King considers to be his magnum opus. The story centers upon "the gunslinger", who has been chasing after his adversary, "the man in black", for many years. Chronicled is the gunslinger's quest through a large desert, and then a mountain, in search of the man.
Not my first entry and full view not necessary.Comments always welcome.
I wanted to portray the softer side of Grendel and his mother. Though they were portrayed as monsters her love of her child was apparent in her reaction to him being hurt.
"I watched the pitiful creature vanish, bit by bit, until only her bones, and the tips of her hairs remained— but they soon faded as well."Griffin, later infamous as 'The Invisible Man', with one of his early experiments.face detailcat detail
Robert E Howard's Conan the Barbarian. After recieving this excellent set of DVDs recently, I thought I'd put them to some use and attempt a nice close-up side profile view, and show the character in a more passive and thoughtful mood than normal. The DVDs are great and I'd recommend them to anyone wishing to learn to draw anatomy of the human figure without reference. As you'll see in the WIP, I even drew in the ears, forgetting that they'd be covered by Conan's traditional "square cut mane".
Onos T'oolan is a T'lan Imass. A race of magical Neanderthal type people who under took a necromantic ritual and are unable tro die. In addition, they are able to return to the ground and travel vast distances as dust. Onos T'oolan and other T'lan Imass appear in Steven Ericson's Malazan Books of the Fallen . In my opinion one of the best series of fantasy books ever written. Here is a WIP and image of a zombie I used as reference.
This is Drizzt Do'Urden, a favorite character of mine from numerous books of R.A. Salvatore. He is a dark elf that chose to leave his evil underground society and live above ground as a noble ranger protecting the good
