I decided that the "shredding and grinding" could easily be done by teeth and clawed hands. Evolution is a good way of finding the most efficient tool for the job, and teeth are fairly successful.Click here to see the initial pencil drawings - there are a couple of body and head variants. There is also a small WIP that shows how I developed the pencils, and finally an extra large 2500 pixels version for those that might want a fatter full view.
The Fishing Village was still far, but Makina could hear the village getting ready for battle. In the Coast Villages the One big wave she makes when getting at the surface has been associated with death for ever.First entry in an advanced contest. Special thanks to Furitsu for helping me out!View Full :D

"Over time, the attacks became more and more common, but people, in the way that people often do, ignored them for as long as possible. In the meantime, the gruesome slayings were attributed to everything from displaced wolves to murderous lunatics. (The fact that just such a person had recently been executed in France for similar crimes only lent more proof to this grim idea.) The victims themselves couldn’t tell their attacker; once a Makina had laid its massive, curved-under claws on a man, he may as well have had both feet firmly in his grave. When Makina were spotted, it was usually by those whom ‘sensible’ people would be disinclined to believe: children, mute animals, or sailors much worse for the drink, all of which had an uncanny ability to go unnoticed by the creatures. Yet still, rarely, someone credible would escape; it was from these accounts that the Makina came to be known as more than just a shadow in the moonlight."Acrylic on canvasDetailProgress pics
Sketched lightly in pencil, and then painstakingly painted in photoshop. I gave Makina dead fishy eyes, a tentacle-like barbed tongue for tearing flesh, and nice sharp teeth and claws. I'm particularly happy with how the skin came out. :) View full for extra oozy monstery goodness. If you'd like a close up of Makina's face, I've uploaded one here: http://s295.photobucket.com/albums/mm128/ihasbukket/?action=view¤t=Makinafacecloseup.jpg References (I hope I've done these links correctly):1800's men's clothes here: http://www.handsonhistoryinc.org/HOH-Page10.html and here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1795-1820_in_fashion Lantern here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lantern
