View Full to see detail in collar & sleeve!

" `You said it was an empty sleeve?' he said. `Certainly,' I said. He then very quietly pulled his sleeve out of his pocket again, and raised his arm towards me as though he would show it to me again. He did it very, very slowly. I looked at it. `Well?' said I, clearing my throat, `there's nothing in it.' I could see right down it. He extended it straight towards me, slowly, slowly, -- just like that, -- until the cuff was six inches from my face. Queer thing to see an empty sleeve come at you like that!"

The Dark Tower V: Wolves of the Calla

Susannah made her way to the end of the porch, and into the yard. Drawn in chalk on the barnboards was a man - or manlike being. She raised her head. Looked at the shape chalked on the barn wall, then cried out shrilly, and Roland felt his hard-beating heart rise. In that moment he had a clear and beautiful memory of David, his hawk, folding his wings in a blue summer sky and dropping at his prey. Like a stone with eyes.

"Riza!"

Her hands dropped and became a blur. Seizing a dish from each of the two pouches, they flew in turns, crisscrossing in midair a moment before thudding into the side of the barn. Her hands dropped again for more dishes. She flung them, dipped again, flung a third set, and then a fourth.

The first two were still quivering when the last two bit into the side of the barn, one high and one low. She had thrown all of them in no more than 3 seconds.

"You reminded me of my hawk," Roland admitted. Susannha's teeth flashed white in a grin. "I felt like a hawk!"

WIP

I took some liberties with the editing of the quotes from the book. Serious fans of the series, please forgive me.

I had a feeling that a finer talent than I would undertake The Dark Tower series, so I stuck with a related character from a different book.

The Eyes of the Dragon: Stephen King

"Show me," he murmured. "This is my command." At first, nothing. Then, little by little, the crystal began to glow from within. There was only a tiny light at first, diffuse and pallid. Flagg touched the crystal again, this time with the tips of his fingers. It had grown warm.
"Show me Peter. This is my command. Show me the whelp that dares put himself in my way, and show me what he plans to do. The light grew brighter...brighter...brighter.

Thanks to xtwizx stock for my Flagg. :)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Divine_Comedy#Paradiso
The Divine Comedy (Italian: Commedia, later christened "Divina" by Giovanni Boccaccio), written by Dante Alighieri between 1308 and his death in 1321, is widely considered the central epic poem of Italian literature, and is seen as one of the greatest works of world literature.[1] The poem's imaginative and allegorical vision of the Christian afterlife is a culmination of the medieval world-view as it had developed in the Western Church. It helped establish the Tuscan dialect in which it is written as the Italian standard.[2]

This is a scene from the book A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle.
"Outwardly Mrs. Whatsit was a marble-white body with powerful flanks, something like a horse but at the same time completely unlike a horse, for from the magnificently modeled back sprang a nobly formed torso, arms, and a head resembling a man's, but a man with a perfection of dignity and virtue. From the shoulders slowly a pair of wings unfolded, wings made of rainbows."
Mrs. Whatsit is flying on the planet Uriel carrying Meg, Calvin, and Charles Wallace on her back.
I used a lot of sources.

Jessica transforms the Water of Life

Dune ~ Frank Herbert

and it asks for an excerpt-
This is a drug they feed me, Jessica told herself. But it was unlike any other drug of her experience, and Bene Gesserit
training included the taste of many drugs. Chani's features were so clear, as though outlined in light.
A drug.
Whirling silence settled around Jessica. Every fiber of her body accepted the fact that something profound had happened to it. She felt that she was a conscious mote, smaller than any subatomic particle, yet capable of motion and of sensing her surroundings. Like an abrupt revelation--the curtains whipped away--she realized she had become aware of a psychokinesthetic extension of herself. She was the mote, yet not the mote.

"One of the big trees had been partly chopped through, and standing beside it, with an uplifted axe in his hands, was a man made entirely of tin. His head and arms and legs were jointed upon his body, but he stood perfectly motionless, as if he could not stir at all."
