A twist is a surprise ending--not just any surprise, but a surprise that makes sense in the context of the story, and that we could have seen coming, but didn't.
It's hard to write a good twist, because if you're off, you ruin the story. There's a fine line between success and failure.
But a great twist makes for a truly memorable read.
Like this one, to pick just one of many great twists in the Worth1000 Text Section Archives.
The rules of the game are thus: Write a story with a twist at the end.
