Glass can be a really tricky subject to capture. Shadows and light play together in so many different and harmonious ways, and from all directions; the more intricate the glass design, the more complicated the task of replicating it. Time spent practicing and mastering glass will make the results all worthwhile.

This contest is going to focus on glass, but with a bit of a festive spin to make it more interesting. Any winter holiday type glass will do: glass tree ornaments, stained glass, Christmas light bulbs, crystal star tree-toppers, glass menorahs, eggnog in a glass, Kwanzaa chandeliers... you get the idea. Festive glass, folks. Spread some holiday cheer while doing a bit of glass study!

Glass may seem complex, but it can be easy and fun to do if you keep a few things in mind:

* Tone and value are very important here. The highlights in your glass will be the lightest value of anything in your drawing.
* Keep your light sources in mind while working on your shadows and highlights.
* If your object is solid reflective glass (like a colorful bulb ornament), it will likely be reflecting any nearby objects. If it is transparent, you'll be able to see some of whatever is behind it, or underneath it.
* When colored glass is involved, keep in mind that glass will also reflect some of the colors of any nearby objects.
* Glass can have texture. While some ornaments have a surface so smooth that a mirror would be jealous, others might have a bit of graininess or coarseness to them (frosted glass and etching, for instance). Don't be afraid to experiment with texture.

Be creative, try new things, and most of all, have fun!
