The common French phrase, la petite mort, translates as "the little death" in English (a reference to sexual climax). I took that phrase and essentially created an entity for it. A grim reaper of sorts, this lovely figure is the personification of the death of one's sexual innocence.

You can view a larger detail, as well as the full-sized detail of her face and headdress. Quick WIP. I had so much fun with the feathery details and ribbons, especially. And finally letting go of my "need" to paint the typical, full scenes I usually do... it's incredibly freeing to step away from my self-imposed norm for once.

Soft beating wings and one last, wonderous flight across the border, and beyond the setting sun. Rest now, weary bones.

Meaning of Death

When a poet writes of death
don't take it literally
death has many meanings
which differ significantly

to a poet death might mean
death of a past
which is a new beginning
one that might last

death to a poet is life
time to start a new chapter
turn the page
turn sadness into laughter

to a poet death is a new start
ending of strife
closing, locking the doors
of their old life

death has so many meanings
not only for a poet
all parts of life leads to death
some just don't know it

death means change
chance for a new beginning
put the past behind
stop losing, start winning

so to a poet
death is not always bad
we must write our feelings
whether good or sad

I'll bet his job gets pretty monotonous.
This was 70% pen & ink...the rest was colored in Photoshop. See my WIP here.

He should have bought a cat.
For what he thought was ginger-ale,
Was poison for a rat.
