In this Illustration Revolution contest you are being asked to create an original matte painting.

Create a matte painting. Matte paintings go from almost completely photo based all the way to completely hand painted. They are usually fantastic scenes used either as concepts for CGI in films (more accurately refered to as environmental concept art), or within the actual film plate themselves. Googling "matte painting" should turn up some inspiration. They are often sci-fi or fantasy scenes, but can also be almost anything else (like ancient Rome or Boston during the American War of Independence for example).

Normal W1K rules regarding the use of photos in multimedia/illo can be ignored for this contest. All sources/refs to be linked and all of Worth's other rules regarding copyright and source photos are still in place.

WIPs not mandatory but they are always fun and informative to see. :)

Digital illustrations, real life sketches, paintings are acceptable (remember - no 3d apps). Please take the extra few minutes and list/link your references, as per the illustration guidelines.

The rules of the game are thus: In any style or medium, create an image for the theme "Matte Painting", in accordance with Worth's Illustration Contest Rules. NO PHOTO TRACING, PAINTOVERS OR CLOSE REFERENCE: DO NOT base your entry off an existing matte painting. Special exception to standing illo rules: Photos are allowed. You'll have 14 (fourteen) days for this contest.
