A splash of color can add a lot to a scene. What is often forgotten is that the color can be artificial; a feature of your lighting. The simplest color-cast is that of blue daylight contrasting with the warm light of tungsten bulbs. But there are a million other examples; neon lights giving street alleyways a funky urban glow, discrete colored kick lights that bring out contours in modern product ads. And you don't need to have a fancy studio to pull it off either.

See how Eurydice has transformed a candlestick into a work of art by clever rim-lighting in three colors. Household items will get you far - bounce the light off of colored wrapping paper, use Christmas decorations as in the the themepost, or play with the daylight balance for the natural light approach. Or go outside into the funky possibilities of city lighting.

We want photos where the subject is illuminated by at least one colored light. We won't accept toned images; the effect has to be done in-camera. We also don't want the colored light to be the subject in itself, so photographing a colored lamp or a neon sign won't fly; they need to be illuminating something else!

Good luck!
