She took to the sky, when the summer was high
The angel with newly-grown wings
Soaring towards the horizon, she’d die
In the sorrow her yesterday brings

A nest in the sky, now the winter is high
She’s mending her newly-scarred wings
If only she’d known she never could fly
The song of tomorrow she sings

A night with clear sky, the angel fell shy
The pain in her heart burst and stings
He’s soaring towards her, passing her by
She feels the breeze of his wings

A crow in the sky, is watching her cry
Its presence, a memory brings
Of love and compassion; she lets out a sigh
And tears off her scarred, broken wings

Unseen, my love, I follow from on high,
On thermal breeze, at nature’s whim,
Like petals float on midnight breeze,
Or silk upon a lover’s skin.

Love binds me here, and begs me stay,
Like a memory of better things -
The sound of bees in summer's heat;
A butterfly with painted wings.

Do you know I'm always here with you?
Can you feel my presence, ever near?
That gentle breath of summer air -
My soft blown kiss into your ear.

But oh, to hold you once again;
A beating heart in chest that's bare,
Your strength and warmth enfolding me,
Your gentle hands run through my hair.

Would death’s cold hand forsake me, then,
If I could kiss you one more time?
And should my love deliver me,
Might you then lift your eyes to mine?

Then would you see, within your heart,
That none shall love you more than I?
And understand, my only man -
You have no need to rage and cry.

There is no blame; there is no guilt.
I have moved on, yet you must live.
But how I wish you could hear me say:
Beloved husband - I forgive.

Forgive me too, then let me go;
Let gentle winds and random fate,
Transport me where you cannot follow,
Through bluest skies and heaven's gate.

Just a few brief seconds spent
to take wing on softest breeze;
I know not where you came from,
though I do suspect a sneeze.

Demon-spawn and demon-spew
Have regretfully come to call.
No time spent for reaction here,
as from the Heavens it falls.

With tint so vague, yet so profound
flies gleaming in the sun's light;
come seamlessly, without a sound
like a comet in the night.

From lips of angels it is not,
but borne from lips no less.
Primordial ooze that time forgot,
now hanging on my dress.

A song above, with wings of love
Floats high above our heads
Late summer night, moon big and bright
The warmth around us spreads

This bench at left -- empty, bereft;
The right end’s full of us
As far away, a band does play
The song to which we buss

Floats high the tune, up to the moon
Our hearts alift with each
If love goes on like this anon
The moon they’ll surely reach

The hum above our heads is so unnerving
A vehicle of aliens unseen
Has stopped abruptly after swoops and swerving
And now is still, uneasily serene

Why does it hang above us so intently
This ominous ship halted in the sky?
And if it lands, will we be treated gently
Or by unheard-of weapons will we die?

The days go by, the weeks, the months, the years now
While hangs above so close yet out of reach
The outerspace conveyance that we've learned how
To think of as a harmless humming leech

It hangs above, no change of any kind yet
We wonder, will we ever get to know
The ones who built this awe-inspiring space jet
And will it ever land, or someday go?

Departure was as sudden as arrival
What was above us now is there no more
No humming and no fear for our survival
The silence strange, this silence we adore

We still awake from dreams of death or torture
Brought on by anxious years of the unknown
The meaning of the visit? Well, we're not sure
But one thing we have learned -- we're not alone

Was this an observational adventure
Or merely an experiment to see
How beings on this planet deal with nature --
Or was it just a spaceman on a spree?

Though gone for many decades, I still worry
That someday they'll return and then decree
That Earth belongs to them (whoever "they" be)
And never more to Man -- not you nor me

I know of you natural evil;
Held high, the head of shame.
Bowing to none, your black-breasted
Majesty.

Watching as we warily walk, you
Look up to stare us down.
Three complacent quarters paid for
One of fear.

Silhouette the Sun;
In soft focus, you blot the bright streetlamp-
Like blackest shadow, have no sharp edges-
But your halo pierces.

You distant, watchful Lord,
High priest of your endless domain,
How regal are you! - And how small.
How alone.

Is there solace for you, are your wings your prayer?
Surfer of ethereal tides, do you float and ride?
Or is there only struggle, to rise, to hunt,
To suspend, to dive, to seek a season’s love?

As days turn coil to spring;
As sky turns clear to water;
As you fly into your shadow, observant,
With your Eagle’s keen eyes, tell me!:

Can you see yourself?

Sweet little chirps of the morning,
How pleasant a wake to such delight.
Hungry, tiny tummies, seeking lots of yummies.
Seeds, worms, and bugs fill your plight.

Fluttering, puttering, dancing about,
Scurrying off on another journey.
Not too far from home, will they rarely roam,
Upside down and topsy turvey.

Basking in the sun, bathing in the dirt,
Just a few of nature’s pleasures.
Droplets of rain to make clean again,
Then off to find more tasty treasures.

Chickadee, gold finch in a tree,
Cardinals with a titmouse or two.
The crows are too noisy, the blue jays too bossy
The smallest branches were made just for you.

Light fades, crickets join in tune,
Dusk greets you for resting is near.
Delicate voices, softly fading with the moon,
Morning waiting, soon to be here.

The birds, they are free
Floating high above the treetops and the buildings
Winged creatures have no limits.

The birds, they are free
They know not what happens here on the ground
They have no need for streets and sidewalks.

The birds, they are free
They fly far; they fly fast
They are their own masters.

What I would give to be a hawk,
Circling my prey
Owning the sky
Soaring up above
The birds, they are free.
