During Christmas Eve and Christmas Day 1914, British and German troops stationed along the Western Front, held an unofficial "Christmas Truce". In "No Man's Land" they exchanged gifts and pleasantries, as they drank and sang carols together. A soccer match even broke out, though presumably, the Germans won on penalties!

Dedicated to all forces personnel currently serving overseas. have a safe and peaceful Christmas.

On the Feast of Stephen (Boxing day), "Good King" Wenceslas, watched a peasant gathering scraps of food. So the king set out of his castle on foot to find him, so he could personally hand over some of his own ample food.

An alternative office party for all the hardworking pagans in your office! This illustration is meant to be funny first off all, and second of all to point out all the symbols and customs of Christmas that derive from pagan holidays, such as Winter Solstice. I know that the office setting blurs the "in the past" requirement a bit but I couldnt resist juxtaposing the decorum of an office party with a taboo pagan romp; complete with burning pine tree, naked people, and a roast boar on a spit! Oh, and of course punch! I think they won over a convert in the young man in the santa hat standing out in the hallway. It looks like he got distracted on his way to the X-mas Office Party down the hall! He is one element that hints that this image may be slightly less than contemporary. There's a nostalgic air there that reminds me a bit of Norman Rockwell and 50's art. Its very appropriate, as i associate 50's with domestic perfection- and it's stuck out there in the hallway wishing it could join in the fiery fun.

Every celebration begins with the preparation of food, drinks, decorations and finding a space (Time Square, a church, Mom’s house) to have it in. The preparation is hard work and no less so when the space has yet to be acquired. In this illustration the focus is uncharacteristically on Joseph. As Husband and Father Joseph is “loosing it!” in his attempts to find a single soul willing to allow Jesus into their home and their hearts for what will be the pivotal turning point in history.
