CONTEST DESCRIPTION
In this free contest, your task is to design a logo for Kern County Sheriff's Office Air Support Unit. For more information see the Department page and the Unit page. Unit specific aircraft photos can be viewed here.
Mission Statement: The Kern County Sheriff's Office is committed to work in partnership with our community to enhance the safety, security, and quality of life for the residents and visitors of Kern County through professional public safety services.
Unit specifics: The Air Support Unit serves to assist and enhance deputies patrolling the communities served by the department. The air unit functions in a multi-role capacity including nightly patrol flights, search & rescue missions, marijuana eradication, tactical team insertion, surveillance and transportation of personnel. The unit operates several light-observation helicopters for patrol functions and marijuana eradication's, a medium-lift helicopter for search & rescue/hoist missions/tactical team insertions and two fixed-wing airplanes for surveillance and transportation missions. The aircraft flown include: 2 MD500E helicopters, 2 OH-58A+ helicopters (military version of the Bell 206 Jet Ranger), 1 Bell Huey II helicopter, 1 Cessna T-206 airplane and 1 Cessna T-210 airplane. Any illustrations of aircraft should be of one or more of these particular aircraft. The unit is primarily recognized for its patrol capacity and secondly its search and rescue capacity; therefore, in order of importance any aircraft illustrations should be of the MD500E or OH-58 A+ helicopters, followed by the Huey II helicopter, followed by either fixed-wing airplane.
The design will appear on unit branding on website, unit patch, challenge coins, collectibles and clothing prints.

- The logo can contain up to 4 colors. The unit colors are (similar to) green (#006C43) and gold (#DCBE8C). The aircraft's have base color of white, and the paint-schemes are outlined in black. Any illustrations should include versions with white and dark backgrounds for future textile printing. Emphasis should be on the unit colors.
- Entries may not contain gradients, but the client will consider a gradient logo as long as a non-gradient version is included.
- They would like to see either one of two, or combination of the two, following styles/symbols used:
- Military style unit insignia incorporating the functions or mission of the Sheriff's Air Support Unit and or aircraft.
- Personalized unit mascot character representing the Sheriff's Air Support Unit.
- Their target audience is all aircraft enthusiasts, law enforcement enthusiasts, allied agencies and members of the local community of all ages.
- Your logo should represent the Air Support units commitment to providing professional law enforcement services to the community.
- Any type of mascot appropriate to aviation, or made to represent aviation theme may be used. Otherwise, any type of unit representative insignia may be used. Within each section a representation of the three primary functions of the unit: patrol, search & rescue and surveillance/transportation with a depiction of the aircraft utilized in each capacity (light-observation helo, medium-lift Huey helo and a fixed-wing airplane as described above). Any depiction of unit aircraft should be colored in accordance with unit aircraft paint scheme and colors as represented by available pictures in the provided link. Examples of logo's/mascots they like are LAPD Mascot, Fort Worth Police, Calgary Police and USCG.
