Hell has many torments but the first that all souls meet is the Devourer. He has no eyes so he does not discriminate between young and old or male and female. He has no ears so he does not hear your screams or pleas for mercy. He is totally pitiless. What he does have is a never ending hunger due to the fact that his stomach and entrails have been removed-he is never full and the agony of his pain add to his already foul temper. Of course a soul cannot be wholly destroyed nor is it completely devoured-just the outer semblance of the individual and the maimed soul passes through and continues its journey until it finds its special place in Hell.
