While in Japan my husband I stalked the fabled Hibagon for days through the forests of Mount Hiba. There had been several sightings that month of an apelike creature with a triangular face, large glaring eyes and a head covered with bristles. Our noses told us he'd been near, the stories also said he smelled like decaying flesh. As the light began to fade on our last day, with nothing to reward our efforts but fleeting glances and all-too-powerful wiffs, we were heading back to civilization when we felt we were being watched. My camera ever at the ready around my neck I turned, slow as molasses, and our eyes met. Soulful, intelligent green eyes. I was able to snap this picture before he bolted. At long last! Proof of the hibagon's existence. sources
Wendigo is a malevolent cannibalistic spirit into which humans could transform, or which could possess humans, and those who indulged in cannibalism were at particular risk. They were strongly associated with the Winter, the North, and coldness, as well as with famine and starvation. At the same time, Wendigos were embodiments of gluttony, greed, and excess; never satisfied after killing and consuming one person, they were constantly searching for new victims. Wendigo gave off a strange and eerie odor of decay and decomposition, of death and corruption. Please comment.
SourcesSome have speculated that the Altamaha-ha (snake-like river animal) may be an oceanic cryptid which engages in reproductive spawning in fresh waters. However, no physical evidence for its existence as a real creature has been reported.
