He may live in Gnome Man's Land. He may work for the Gnome Office. He may hang with his Gnomies later....OK, I'll get my coat!
This is a portrait of a nestling, one of the lesser known elementals. He allows different parts of his body to become a temporary home to all sorts of critters that are in need of a new nesting site. This particular nestling has given his head to some needy bald faced hornets that lost their home due to a violent storm. This relationship that a nestling has with these orphans is benefiting him , also. Every time a species settles in, it is covering a part of his fully exposed body. Hopefully, he will be completely covered by many nests that have become abandoned to protect him from the winter's cold. I have a hornet's nest in my oak tree out back and I thought it would be cool to make an elemental out of it.Hornets feed mainly on flies and other pesky insects so if you have a nest around you'll have less flies. They usually do not bother you but pack a painful sting if they do.Enjoy my elemental.Good luck to all other artists in this contest.SourcesWikimediaphotoxpress.comFlickr- urijamjari NSFWjlucieralaskaentsxc.hu
Remember summer evenings when you were little and having far too much fun to go to sleep? I've heard tell it's the same thing for young sylphs. Image inspired by the song "Five More Minutes" by Meaghan Smith. A bit of the lryics:I'm not tired in the least, five more minutes pleaseThe sun hasn't set, it's painting the westHints of lilac light, but not a star in sightDon't want to go to bed, don't want to close my eyesDon't want to rest my head and end this summer nightFireflies glow for us, the cricket's orchestraThe night is awake, please don't make me go to sleepI'm not tired in the least, five more minutes... please.(I have a model release for both girls)Sources
A desolate pool rests at the bottom of a valley. Every spring, as the frozen pond begins to melt, the naiad rises, neither water nor ice, and releases an offering of her making to the gods. The offering is of exquisite beauty, and every spring the gods allow the pool to melt, and be an oasis of life once more.Pretty different from my previous attempts at water elementals.
