Anvil was a hard headed child, who never quite fit in. Luckily, he had a loving mother. He always knew that when he grew up, he wanted to be a blacksmith.
I took inspiration from the crumbling wall, the tools, the bucket and the lighting tones found in the themepost. I swapped the blacksmith's tools for gardening tools and a pot in place of the bucket. All these elements made me think of a sinister scene that shows the hazards of doing gardening for an axe murderer.
My inspiration comes from the overall atmosphere of the themepost. The lighting, colors and postprocessing all add to create a certain mood that I wanted to recreate. Also the steam coming from the water is an element that binds the two images.
The main source of my inspiration was the most surreal detail in the original image, the blacksmith's head replaced with an anvil. I kept that single element, and by changing its native surrounding, redefined the main character and accelerated the timeline towards the future. This could easily be a blacksmith's grandson in an exotic late-night latex club.
Inspiration came, not from the character himself, but rather from his line of work. Metal workers of all disciplines forever appear absorbed and focused when shaping and moulding the molten substance into items of practical use or beautiful works.
This image is inspired by the themepost being an FX composition, where the idea is to create something that isn't real but gives the illusion of being believable. But things aren't always what they seem...
When I looked at the themepost, it called out to me:"STEAMPUNK!" I always wanted to do a steampunk photo. The replacing of body parts with objects is a common motive in steampunk. So this is why this lovely lady's ear became replaced with a clockwork.
How would the guy with an anvil as head feel in the real world? This is my interpretation.Entry was made by shooting and printing 48 different photos of myself with white make-up. These were taped together to one big piece of paper with a hole in the middle. I then painted my head black and stuck my head through the middle.
I was inspired by the tools in the given image and decided to show the 'Daily Beauty Regime Tools' that women have to use on a daily basis to look gorgeous and maintain their looks. I loved that the lighting fitted the mood of the tools in the inspirational picture and have tried to do the same to my 'tools'.
The inspiration for my image came from the pliers and pincers in the themepost. Most of us hate going to the dentist. In fact, I'm sure we've even had some sleepless nights before visiting them!
