As he awoke, Tom felt a rough surface against his cheek. Opening his eyes he realized he was lying on concrete. As he tried to lift his head he suffered a blinding pain behind his eyes and tasted the iron tang of blood in his mouth. From a short distance away he heard the sounds of a struggle. Fighting nausea he turned to see Cheri, bloodied but upright, slashing at the fetid creature that had attacked them. Before he could summon the strength to help her Tom felt the pull of unconsciousness dragging him under.

Tom Lukas and Cheri Walker, two financially strapped college students are happy to be assigned work-study jobs in their field of Anthropology. They are both more than a little puzzled when their job assignment has them report to Dr. Frederick Nelson in the Physics Department. Once there Tom and Cheri are alarmed at what Dr. Nelson has planned for them. Before they can leave they are restrained and forced to participate. Soon they find themselves thrust into a battle for survival in a world 150 years into the future, a future bereft of life as they know it. Now they must fight their way back to the present in order to save mankind from itself.

From Hugo and Nebula Award winning author, Jane Harris, comes an intense science fiction thriller that gives a terrifying new view on the disastrous effects of climate change. Best known for her award winning trilogy Fires of Andromeda, Harris has once again brought forth a view of a world one can only hope will stay within the pages of fiction. Harris currently lives in North Carolina with her two cats, Mooshi and Peeper.

From the amazing mind of Vincent Burrus comes Before and After:

Imagine a world without smiles, a world without sound, a world without life. This is the world that Kevin Bartek lives in. He dreams of a new world filled with activity and color, all of the things lost in modern times. One day, Kevin discovers that his dreams have more meaning than he thought. His dreams have the power to make extraordinary things happen. His dreams slowly take control of the grey world, morphing once dull objects into things of beauty. However, there is one thing Kevin can’t seem to take control of. A building. A certain destructive building with magic in the air, the very magic that took life out of Kevin’s world. Kevin fears that maybe dreams won’t be enough to stop the darkness that thrives in each one of us: fear.

Please be kind, this is my very first entry.
I looked at the picture for a long time, and finally came up with an idea about a building that could not be changed, a building that was quite destroyed and abandoned... for now!

I hope you enjoy my entry, I had a lot of fun writing it!
Constructive critisism welcome!

On the outside it was a ruined shell of yesteryear, but to Jason and Mel the old Salisbury Factory was home. The overseer's office made a cozy bedroom decorated with the scraps of wasteful citizens and the assembly line was their playground. They didnt think of themselves as orphans but more as free. Free to play when they wanted, eat when they wanted and sleep when they wanted. The city of Hattsburg was their school and survival was their everyday lesson. But Jason and Mel's life will be turned upside when a run-away tries to befriend them and join their factory home.

About the author
Bernie Madison grew up on the mean streets of Hattsburg before being adopted by the wealthy Madison family. After returning home from Yale the author spends almost all of his time writing at his home on Verners Island where he enjoys solitude. The Salisbury Gang is the beginning of a series which will have five sequels.

Callie Carter’s life was all mapped out, and the arrogant but charming Pediatrician Jake Deere was not part of that plan. Until one kiss changed everything.

His hand grasped the mug she was holding and they stood for a moment, their hands touching. The steam from the hot coffee inside it made her face flush. Or was it him. Her heart beat faster and harder. He was looking at the cartoon on her cup, reading it aloud, slowly, lingering in the moment. It was the first moment they actually touched. She pulled away from the sheer intensity of the moment. She had to absorb what was about to happen.

They were co-workers at the hospital next door, and would take walks together during their breaks, venting frustration about the cases they had that day. They always ended up here, in the old condemned mining building. It was here that time stopped, in their own secret getaway spot. He was standing close enough she could feel his breath on her cheek. His finger traced a shadow on her face. She knew he was going to kiss her, and that was going to change things forever.

BOOK EXCERPT:
She stood leaning against the hood of her car, arms crossed, head tilted, looking at him.
“What is it that you want?” she asked him.
“It’s not that I want anything from you. I need you. I need you in my life,” he said.
His eyes were hooded with an innocence and raw need for her acceptance.
“It’s complicated,” she said as she drew the last hit off her cigarette.
“It’s doesn’t have to be,” he said.
She knew he was right. She wanted this to happen as much as she did.

In the decades after the Great Decision, economists have argued about why consumers suddenly just stopped buying goods. As people walked away from homes filled with treasures no one wanted and groups like the Amish taught courses in simplicity and subsistence farming, many whose wealth depended on consumerism fell into abject poverty.

Now in a bold new book, author Frederick Geuntz claims that this move marked a global return to sanity. He details the growing death tolls from ever more desperate sales and the final failure of the consumerist society. He also follows the development of the new economy.

While many have suggested that the population of the Americas experienced a form of communal psychotic break; the effects of which echoed through the entire industrial world. Geuntz points to the fact that in the years after the Decision global literacy rates jumped and conflict in resource rich regions plummeted to support his thesis that, far from being a moment of insanity, the Great Decision was one of the first truly sane actions of the human race.

Return to Sanity is not content to stop there, but goes on to suggest that the future of the human race has a very different shape. He argues that move to local economies and hand crafting of necessities does not mean that humans have stopped evolving. Instead he shows that the trade in art and science is actually on the increase.

Frederich Geuntz was child when his parents left everything joined an Amish settlement. He has spent his adult life walking around the world talking to people of all nations and faiths about their reasons for leaving the life they had once known. The wisdom of the next generation gives him hope that the new sanity is not temporary.

Homicide Detective Alexa Parker didn’t make deals. But when a body turned up at the local Huber Breaker Building, she had to find out who did it. Some grade school kids were on a historic tour of the old worn down machinery building when the crane operator lifted the hook out of the hole in the factory floor, carrying an unexpected piece of cargo. There was a bucket attached to the crane hook with a note pinned to the girl’s limp bloody body that read: “This one’s for you Alexa. You’re next. ”

The color drained out of her face as she realized who it was ”“ her roommate Kelsey Stone.
She felt that same sick feeling when she was a rookie cop as she investigated her first homicide case. She managed to arrest a brutal serial killer who murdered single women on college campuses at night. He promised he would find her when he got out of prison. He was back, and he was going to stop at nothing to get to her. She knew exactly where to find him. But she would have to compromise her morals and maybe her job to get there. Join her on the hunt to find a killer that is also hunting her.

William Earlhouse's new book "Auto Be A Law" tells the true story of whistle blower Brenda Fay. In this incredible story, Earlhouse tells of a lone Ford factory worker who goes above and beyond to try to convince a corperate giant that there were flaws in their new car, the Twin Tiger. Never heard of it? That's because of Ms. Fay's relentless efforts to shut down production at the Littleton, New York plant. But, because of Ms. Fay's tireless endeavor, the small town of Littleton, lost over 500 jobs, half of the town's population. Was she right or wrong to speak out? The town's divided.
Now all that remains in Littleton is an empty car production plant, 50% unemployment and Brenda Fay who lives in fear in the town in which she was born. Justice is blind, but Ms. Fay wasn't. William Earlhouse's "Auto Be A Law" will have you walking the fence of right and wrong, and asking yourself the question, "What would I have done"?

Kristina was just a normal 16 year old girl trying to find her place in the world just surviving high school and the mean girls in it, until her mom met Bill. Bill seemed like a nice guy. He had a nice job, a nice car and a nice house. He dressed like any normal business man, he was always clean shaven and he never forgot to comb his hair. He appeared "nice" so why did Kristina have this feeling about him? The feeling that she knows him already. Why does she think she knows the real Bill, the not-so-nice one. Why is she so scared?
