This entry is an accurate sand replica of the Saint Basil's Cathedral in Moscow, Russia. It features 11 sand towers. Outside material is all sand and torches, Sandstone can only be found hidden inside. The structure is hollow (most of the ceilings is made from sandstone).

All the sand (and torches and sandstone) are mined (and crafted) by hand. Used blender to plan the building. A friend helped with the construction and with killing creepers. I made "massive abuse" (as can be seen on the screenshots) of the fact that torches can stop sand from falling down. That gave some nice lighting, too... ;)

This is my 2 Weeks WIP: A most exactly Rebuild of the beautiful Frauenkirche.

(Picture of the Original: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/93/100130_150006_Dresden_Frauenkirche_winter_blue_sky-2.jpg/220px-100130_150006_Dresden_Frauenkirche_winter_blue_sky-2.jpg

The Original is located in the Old Town of the State-Department Dresden and has many thousand visitors per day. It has been completely reconstructed by donations only and finished 2005. After 60 years as a ruin (Victim of Second World War) it is now one of the most popular Churches of Germany.

I know this isnt really made of (physically correct falling) sand (the OG is completely out of sandstone) and some of the constructions (for Example the frames of windows and some ornaments are not physically correct) but i really love to present this Work in Progress in this contest :)

It's a classic Server-Creation, build on my favorite Server "!!Kromgolian Freebuild!! Pixelart!!". I used WOM-Client, and several Server-functions (Cuboid, spheroid, spin, undo/redo and so on) several pictures and the 3D-model of Google Sketchup-User JWagner (link: http://www.rotorlabs.com/index.php?id=3dgalerie) but NO BOTS or other Clients.

Please leave a constructive critique in reply :)

Mod Note: We made this ineligible for a trophy, as sandstone was not allowed in this contest, but we will leave it in so that you can still admire it. :)

Arastaza castle is a castle built almost entirely out of sand, that dominates the skyline with its cloud-reaching towers. Built in a fantasy middle-eastern style, it uses every possible method of supporting the sand walls while still maintaining an extremely high percentage of sand.

This is one old beast of a build. Made back in the days when world edit was just released, but couldn't be used due to lack of self confidence in where a paste would go, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon was the second major project built on the Voxelbox.

Made entirely by hand, with the effort of helpers such as Cool Pilot and Historyboi (who's banned now), the project was designed by me (the submitter) with intense usage of golden ratios in the base, heights of sand, gate positions and gate sizes.

Some interesting things to note: The construction was originally recorded via a borrowed account under timelapse, but the laptop recording it crashed due to an overwhelming 50GB of space being used up due to incorrect recording settings. The internal structure and sand map for a straight segment was scanned and dispersed to the builders, and is shown above as the pink image. As you can see, it was obviously complicated. It was made with a hollow centre to allow for water to run though both back and front.

Enjoy. Texture Pack: The Voxelbox Creative Texture.

This huge dragon was built on the Voxelbox to demonstrate that it is possible to use suspended sand in structures. The entirety of the creature is supported by either buttons, sandstone or more sand. It is possible to make the buttons invisible by turning them into ladders with Voxel Sniper (a plugin), but I preferred the looks when buttons were re-skinned as sand. A top down perspective has been given to show how it camouflages itself into it's environment.

I read up on human, bird and dragon anatomy to give myself and idea on the bones needed, then constructed them by hand ingame. No binvox or schematics were used, because that's uncreative :P

It can be seen on the Voxelbox, while travelling on the S-Line to Lehmann Airfield. I used the Voxelbox Creative texture pack, with modified smooth stone to sand. No Smooth stone was used in the construction of it because of this.

Please do not critique my entry.

Built on The Voxel Box, this small "Frozen In Time" sand outpost is located in the frozen tundra East of Zair. Covered in snow and decorated with Ice, the cliff-side outpost offers an escape from the rest of the voxel world. Inside its walls, there is a small flower garden, a storage building, and two small housing units. A path leads down to a small dock on the frozen lake beneath.

Well, a bit of explanation to start off with. There's some stuff behind the castle - as well as a forest biome - that I felt took away from the feel of the castle. The fog is a quick fix to block that part out. I also think the fog makes the castle "m0ar epic!!1!" and helps to provide depth and definition to the towers.

Hopefully by now you've noticed a few things about this build. I used a small set of materials, sticking mainly to half steps and sand. Sand, of course, because that's what this competition is all about. Half steps because they provide a light and elegant trim for the sand towers. You may also have noticed the indoor shot - namely, you have probably noticed that it is dark. That is not to alienate those with older monitors; rather it is because I enjoy playing with lighting when I have the opportunity to do so (that is, when creepers won't be spawning inside my castle). Strategic placement of torches, a wonderful portrait from the Voxel Box Texture Pack, and cake bring a powerful and dramatic feel to the indoor environment of this castle.

I hope you like this castle, anyway. Give me a good score! :P
