The dog is curled up in my chair.
She is aware
I’d like to sit;
We won’t both fit.

Her eyes tell me to go away,
I don’t obey.
“That chair is mine,"
I start to whine…

She snorts a bit then spins around,
My lazy hound.
As you can tell,
She’s trained me well.

She weeps as traffic passes by:
Bad place to cry,
Her curbstone seat
By concrete street.

Rain inundates the passing mobs,
Drowns out her sobs.
Umbrellas raised,
They shun her gaze.

Bright taxicab slings slush from wheels;
Drab hair conceals
Despondent face
Bereft of grace.

Black flag, she curls o'er roiling sea.
The wicked be
A good man's doom
In wat'ry tomb.

With flaming iron and sulfurous breath
Comes fetid death.
The chase is done,
What's lost is won.

In burnt remains of wooden pink
Does silver sink,
Ill-gotten prize
From man's demise.

Into the labyrinth he fled
Within his head -
The maze inside;
No place to hide.

Into a carnival of masks
The demon asks
In tongues of fire,
'There dwells the liar?'

Into the wilderness he falls
As darkness calls -
This evil flame
He cannot tame.

I left a note upon your bed
Written in red
Sealed with a kiss
To reminisce

About the past, the love we shared
How much we cared
We were content
So innocent

The future can’t be like the past
Good times don’t last
Hard work begins
(We’re having twins)

In days gone by when knights were bold,
The stories told
A hero's test
Was daring quest.

With sword and shield a dragon fought,
The Grail sought,
His foes enslaved -
A Kingdom saved.

On his return the Princess fell
Under his spell;
The bells they rang
As minstrels sang.

I saw you, sir. The other night.
I saw, all right?
You were with her.
I saw you, sir.

At home you have a loving wife;
a perfect life.
And yet you stray.
The lies you say!

I'll creep into your lover's house
soft as a mouse.
And in her name
I'll end your game.

In ancient times there was a cost
Of angels lost.
As each one leapt
The Heavens wept.

Now slaves in Hades, where they fell,
All is not well.
Fallen from grace,
Each turned their face.

A sense of loss is felt by all,
But they recall
They could repent.
… rapprochement?

I cannot think, this is too much.
Poetic touch
Is down the drain.
My aching brain.

Two hours are left to write this verse.
Oh, what a curse!
I'm going for
At least a score.

This is the worst poem in the bunch.
It is no hunch.
At least I tried.
I want to hide.

Her lips may smile, her eyes may shine,
she seems just fine.
A masked disguise,
brave smiling eyes.

But deep within their thin veneers
she dams her tears.
Her mirrors reflect
a life now wrecked.

Her hearts facade, her partial mind
a shattered kind
of lost despair,
she's not all there.
