And so I’m face to face with time, tick tock,
The bell does toll for witches in the tower,
Tick tock, beware, out there, the witching hour,
It holds no fear, don’t get too near! The clock
Stops not, tick tock, it holds the power to mock,
As fate and destiny they serve that power,
Tick tock, the soul of man it does devour,
And time stops not for every man, tick tock.

Both truth and beauty strangled at its hands -
For time is nigh, and time is never time
At all, the ticking of the clock demands
No rest, and lives revolve around that chime.
So let us turn the glass and leave the sands
To fall on beaches yet untouched by time.

The gleaming shards of jewels beckon to me,
Inside a grotto, deep below the cave.
A crystal lake as far as I can see,
Great heaps of gold that I attempt to save.

Imagining the riches I will own,
I miss a step and hurtle down a well.
Across a sea of fire I am blown,
Into a blast of never ending hell.

A gash of pain is seared along my face.
The blood won’t cease as I beg for my life.
The keeper of this terrifying place
Is threatening to put me to the knife.

Sweet reader, if you dare to rescue me,
Please find a way that you can set me free.

Private Pelman sat in the control room.
The screen was unresponsive to his touch.
Swallowing his sense of impending doom,
Pretending that he hadn't seen too much.
The automatic door had sealed behind him,
Cutting off the screams of the dying men.
The numbers on his monitor were grim,
For soon he'd too run out of oxygen.
He stared out at the cruel blackness of space
Knowing no one would answer his call.
He wished for one more look at his wife's face
And rued the day he signed on the long haul.
But most of all he wished with all his worth
For one more glimpse of his home planet Earth.

He says he is my secret special friend,
But I must not listen when he is near,
I wish this torment would come to an end,
It is a dreadful thing to live in fear.

I am so scared of crimes I might commit,
Should he get his his freedom - he is a freak;
What would he make me do if I submit?
Because he needs me, and my mind is weak.

Oh my God, let them keep the doors all locked,
Bar the room, make them throw away the key!
Keep the fence secure and the gateway blocked,
I must keep everyone away from me.

I hope and pray that I will be proved wrong...
But in my heart I know he is too strong.

Aging is no occupation for men
gradually slipping into weakness
joints neither straighten nor easily bend
and memory fades to blurry likeness.

Youth laugh and run ahead to claim the world
Gravity has no hold on their smooth limbs
They leap boldly on paths that twist and curled
And see hope in life that no wisdom dims.

So this life is in constant division,
Between those who do and they who once did.
Though each may hold each in deep derision,
Yet both youth and age in each other's hid.

To live and breathe and get each day bolder
And find the strength to grow each day older.
