I knew as soon as I saw the theme for this contest what I wanted to do. I've always been fond of "micro" sculpture (not really microscopic, just really really small) and I also love the different ways light refracts through different transparent and translucent materials. I was also inspired in part by The Little Prince, a children's novel about a boy from a very small planet.

Materials: Base is a "rock crystal" deodorant alternative, actually made of mineral salt, with a convenient rounded shape. Other materials included plastic, clear enamel, cosmetic rhinestones (great for crafts), petroleum jelly, glass and plastic beads, and salt.

Alt view #1 is from the perspective of someone behind the 'dragon,' who is just cresting the horizon (that's the tail curving off to the left) on the way to visit the Wisp-people.

WIP #1, taken immediately after I finished erecting the short West Pole and the taller East Pole and connecting the lines from the two poles to the above-ground tent-like part of the Wisp-people's subterranean home. (Shortly before I fumbled the base and had to re-do the poles and wires.) Two Wisp-people are visible; the more distant one is waving some of its filaments above its brainstalk. The domed hatch leading directly below ground is also visible to the right.

WIP #2, with the paved road in place leading to the underground entrance. Some domesticated plantoids (frosted glass beads) have also been added to one side of the tent-room.

Close-up of the 'dragon' of Crystalis (really more like a tentacled manta-fish, sorta?), the other of its two sentient species.

WIP #3, now with 100% more dragon! The dark spot on its head is a breathing orifice, not an eye... the eyes are much bigger, one above the 'nostril' and one to the right. It's also easier to see the hatches on the 'tent' from this angle, even though they aren't in focus.
