I was inspired by the documentary entitled: "Beyond Gay; The Politics of Pride", which explores individuals in different countries all over the world celebrating their pride through parades. While some countries have made great strides towards acceptance in the past 40 years, many countries still strictly enforce laws against citizens even being gay, let alone allowing them to participate in a public expression of their lifestyle. In Moscow, Russia, the first ever Pride Parade was held in the center of town by a small group of very courageous individuals. Facing years of jail time, and possibly even their lives, these men marched peaceful down a single city block with flags held high. The event lasted less than 5 minutes, but in the end, no one was hurt and the display was a success. Several years later, due in part to the efforts of these men, the government gave official permission to hold the first legal pride parade in Moscow.Watch the trailer for this moving documentary here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKi07WDVe6s Sources here: http://i.imgur.com/a3uOe.jpg
