THE SIGN SAYS HAPPY NEW YEAR

This comp was a joy to do - the illo practically drew itself, and took about 20 minutes to pencil down, once the idea kicked in. The best part was learning to do some of the 'painterly' effects with Photoshop, I think to good effect. Always try new tricks, it usually leads to greater things!

I HAD A LOT OF FUN WITH THIS ENTRY

This was originally meant to be in color, but I ran out of time, 'cause I'm lacking in time management skills. :)

A young queen from the old times .

this is tizcaltipic, king of Caltcatzula ( the city on the icon down to the right) this is a portrait that will adorn his royal palace. in the picture you can see the king , with the royal "penacho" showing the snake with feathers. on the top of the snale you see a head of a duck sign of wits. the 2 simbols on the top left indicate his name "Tizcaltipic" or "red bird that broke its neck on 2 arrow heads" this heavy penacho is carried and tied to the back. the king has the traditional paintings of the god of war. with the red paint made of the blood of his enemies. he carries his war flag and his shield in his left arm. on the left hand he carries a religious totem, indicating he has religious suport on his campaing. the rabit head and the horizontal line over the flag show the date in wich the battle was taking place "5 rabbit" the sign of the skull in his shield stands for the month in wich he was born, and his totem. the shield is made out of jaguar skin and his lance shows a eagle head, wich shows that both kind of warriors were under his comand. over his neck and in his torax he carries the simbol of the obsidian knife. sign of sacrifice and god like strenght. in his right hand he holds his defeated enemies by the hair. the simbol below the small man is the name of the city he has conquered. he is also wearing all the signs of a royal member. his legs carry the simbol of venus the morning star, wihile in his skirt, you see the snake and the snail shell signs of eternal life.als also again his own flag and a second flag probably from an ally in this conflict. in one of his legs he has an eagle fethered claw while in the other a jaguar tail tied down. showing again the 2 parts of the army.

this all i made it up as it said in the intro , well some of the interpretations are real since i had to find what was traditional portrait style for the aztecs. it was fun really :) hope you like it i really think it says much more than just a boring face of some european king :P
