the basilisk is actually a deformed version of the cobra that later on denveloped on a myth. the first time is described in a middle ages bestiary from someone called plinio. he described it as the king of the snakes, with a crown like a male chiken, it should be so poisonous that the land would dry and die where it moved, and just a look of its eyes would be deadly , he was also said later to have 2 feet like a chiken and to be able to walk on water. this last characteristics come from a sudamerican lizard wich has the ability to stand in two legs and run fast over small areas of water. here a foto: here not needing to add this lizard recived the name of basilisk
