"Power, Brightness, and Contrast"
These are the 3 buttons on a computer monitor.
In this composition, the computer user represents power.
The mermaid represents brightness,
and the two of them together represent a contrast. All work and no play makes jack a (powerful but) dull boy.

This represents the crazed system of economic power in Japan (and America).

The hard-working, rule-obeying "salaryman" supports the system, and is being replaced by an overseas worker (at 20% of the salaryman's wages...leaving neither with economic clout or disposable income). Notice the "JCB" credit card bill in his hand.

The "good" kid tries to play by the rules, but is ultimately a victim of his own naivete'. The "good kid" depends on the salaryman's income to buy goods which are ultimately valuable only for their logo. Notice his JCB credit card, Nike bag and GameBoy (tm).

The police ignore the rich man's game & the salaryman's demise, but pay close attention to the loud flashy "bosozoku" (joy-riding teenager).

The "bosozoku" recognizes that he's just playing a game in which the salaryman, good boy, and he himself ultimately lose themselves...so the bosozoku rejects the game.

Yet, the bosozoku has to pay gang membership dues, and is ultimately just trading one bad boss for another by tithing himself to another bad power structure..the yakuza (Japanese mafia), represented by the pocket-picking guy with a punch perm.

For some, "power" is as simple as hopping on 1200cc of roaring metal, going to a desert where no-one else is, and declaring onesself "king of all he surveys".

Ozymandias on gasoline.

It's an illo inspired on a picture of John Massis, an artist who called himself 'the most powerful man on earth'... In this scene, he is trying to stop two planes, who are taking off...

It's pencil on paper, with a little bit color balance in photoshop.
