For this one I used two photos of the Dogfish Café for inspiration (here and here. I'd worked on a couple of other designs before my graphics computer decided to die on me, but then I discovered it was all for the better because one of the designs (which was leaning towards the "classic" feel) was starting to look too much like Dogfish Head Ale's logo; so I stuck with the contemporary, hip feel of this graphically intense design. The lettering of "DOGFI(S)H" is custom/hand-lettered (it's not a font), and was influenced by the photos of the café building.

And since I had some extra time on this one, I decided to play around with it. Everyone loves swag, so I toyed with the logo on a couple of backgrounds and products, and in different colors.

-- Logo in BLUE/BLACK, GREENS & other naturals.

--Logo in BLACK/WHITE on RED background, with choice of "Bar & Grill" or "Café" underneath.

--T-shirts: Heather grey with Black/White/Red and Natural with Khaki.

--Neckties with the main S/Fish dogfish. [detail of red/black] [detail of blue]

--Logo against brown paper/paper bag. I like this one because of the take-out/doggie bag possibilities.

As you can see, the design is extremely versatile. If there's something else you'd like to see added/subtracted, please don't hesitate to ask/comment; it was somewhat of a challenge with the requested color limitations (two) but multitude of possible combinations. :)

The design is pretty much straight forward - a stylized dogfish with a hand-drawn look to give a warm and friendly message. The symbol itself is very recognizeable and easy to remember. It can be used on its own and still carry the message good enough.

The sample logos for the two separate restaurants follow the hand-written, hand-drawn style of the company logo. Combined with rough, old looking paper and custom inks, it can give the comapny a very warm and traditional back-2-nature look.
