I contacted the owner of www.superiorpics.com and this was his response:"we license the pictures from Retna, and it's a copyrighted material.You cannot use the image without written consent from Retna.com"Let me know if anyone gets consent from Retna. I have a feeling that will be difficult.
I found a pretty good site - nice hi rez images:Burning well(A repository for public domain images, free for any use.)

Using Google images, it helps to use keywords from many languages, which you can get at babelfish.altavista.com.For example, instead of "excavation" in English, tryescavao in Portuguesescavo in Italianutgraving in Dutchfouille in French (excavate)Lots of additional images turn up
Kind of obvious, but using keywords like "site:.fr" or "site:.edu" filters images down to perhaps more usable ones. Using keywords that might be part of the image size, such as 1024, 1200, 1800, often helps.[Edited by User on 12/4/2005 1:20:46 PM]

I believe those are two seperate sites owned by the same people. Kinda like istockphoto and istockpro only cheaper.

Stock.xchng is back up and it does appear to be better than ever; I haven't experienced a slowdown yet (it was really bad just before they made the changes).
