I'm rediscovering photography.

Really cool shot, meer! Is that min's hand?

Here are rejects from today's challenge. My little ceramic angel that hangs on my antique mirror was just too dusty - macro hides NOTHING! :D

Yeah, I had that problem with an entry to the porcelain contest a while back. Marie was incredulous when I asked where the duster and polish lived! :-)

Yes. :D
I also love it. It's cool and slightly creepy and sexy in a very subtle way.

And you're right about the angel. All the little dust and dirt speckles just add too much texture. You might want to keep it for the next grunge contest, though. ;)

Baby, it's cold outside...

celticfrog said 3 years ago 1/4/2009 3:08:31 PM EDT

It was cold and windy this morning. I saw this fellow on the way home from church.

It wasn't defined enough to count as my weather pic for the day.

I love the frozen road, Marian, just not to drive on!

Craig, excellent shot of the Robin !

JuzzyDee said 3 years ago 1/4/2009 4:06:52 PM EDT

I was on my way home yesterday when I saw these fellas spread out on the driving range we pass to get to my house.

I didn't have a suitable lens with me, so I tried to get as physically close as possible to make up for the lack of magnification. They started to get pretty stand offish, males putting their heads high up in the air, they sorted looked like they were going to jump me, so I backed off.

Boring sky and noisy picture though, so straight to the archives for this one.

This one just felt too cluttered - but I do like the shopping cart...

Clive, I really like the one with the shopping cart, but I agree about it being too cluttered. Especially because the "clutter" doesn't fit in with the otherwise serene feel of the abandoned cart. Perhaps if you had waited to let the boat pass - or cloned away the boat later - if could've worked.

Thanks Nike :-) The boat was moored so it wasn't going anywhere soon. At the time it seemed look a good idea to include it to suggest depth in the image and I'm actually starting to warm to it a bit more now I've had time to get used to it.

Funny you should mention cloning out the boat. I just got a PM from Treason with a link to a modified version where she did exactly that. Great minds think alike ;-)

Yes, the boat and that stuff to the right, which is somehow even more distracting. :) I do like it better like this.
The lines in the one you finally chose are cleaner, of course... I don't know which one I would've chosen, to be perfectly honest.

Day 6 rejection...

We're enduring an ice storm this week, and walking is treacherous. I didn't want to stray too far from home, so I lurked in my own back yard and found this fellow looking for some food:

It must be cold if the squirrel is blowing into its hands to keep warm! ;-)

I really like how the branches lay in this picture, you almost have two choices for how to see the framing, one a triangle and the other a rectangle.

Couple of rejected pictures today...

Out-take from day 7. This is the same object with the focus on the top.

It is an ornamental candle "cage" (at least thats what it does - it sits over a candle).

Conversely, or maybe perversely, I like it for exactly the reasons you both think it's cluttered.

You've got the shopping cart; it moves slowly. You've got the motor-boat; it moves quickly. There's a fence separating them, and both cart and boat are facing the same direction.

It feels like the start of a race, where both racers are ready to go, and you KNOW the faster of the two will win, but there's a fence separation, an isolation, between them that sets them into different leagues. Something might happen during their race that would turn the slower racer's effort into a win.

Cue Tortoise and Hare, call Disney, and end credits.

I really like it.

I don't know how boats look where you come from, but to me it looks like they face the opposite direction ;)

Furthermore, the boat seems attached.

But otherwise I very much agree with your comment. I love the similarity in directions (although pointed opposite) of cart, fence and boat.

The real cluttering happens at the top part, where the fence and the background struggle for attention. If it was taken from an inch higher the background would have been out of the frame leaving a nice clean water background.

That would place the boat behind the metal bar of the fence though.
I think the river needs to be widened.

Yes it's me again with another rejected shot...

I rejected this in favour of the other shot because the other shot's many compositional faults seemed to me to add to it's charm...
