Hello, your ever-ephemeral friend sk here!A quick question on the current CODE: Paper Art contest. The contest description says that preprinted designs/patterns are not allowed, but "Randomly printed paper is fine...(think newspaper or gift wrap)." Does this mean that it would be acceptable to selectively cut pieces from a source to get a particular color, design, etc.; or should emphasis be on how the paper itself is formed?Hopefully my question makes sense. I can't think of how to word it better, but hopefully I can clarify if needed. Thanks!

This is a very good question. The rule was made thus to prevent pre-ptinted stuff from entering the competition. For example, my son has a "Dinosaur Origami" set. It has the dinosaurs pre-printed on the aquare piece of paper, and if you fold it right, it looks fabulous with the dinosaur painted on - this would not be allowed, as it is not your original artwork.Using newspapers to make a flower is, of course, something entirely different. As would be using red and blue cardboard.Spontaneously, I'd say the line is thin. If in doubt, PM me of Kookaburra, and let me know what exactly you want to do, so that we can approve.
That's pretty much what I was thinking. Messaging you now; thanks.
Messaged you back. :)For all others unsure about this, here is something a bit more specific:We want to prevent people from finding pre-printed stuff and pass it as their own artwork. Combining different pieces of paper to make a recognizable object or design - fine. Taking an already recognizable image and incorporating it - not fine.So if you cut out Captain Jack from a movie still and glue him to your paper ship: DQ.A collage of shapes cut out of plain colored paper - good. A collage of images or parts of images glued together - not good.Cutting out a white circle and a smaller black circle and make an eye out of them: Good. Cutting out an eye from the model in the magazine to glue on your paper art: not good.I hope these examples help.
Further clarification:No paint, markers, dye, or anything you draw or write with. This is all about the paper. How are y'all doing? This is so wide open it is overwhelming me!
