It's been raining quite steadily for the last few days, and so the river finally flooded last night...
Here are a couple more airshow pics, taken today:I took a ride in an old Bell helicopter!
Aerobatic biplanes:
Not quite what I shot today... these two were originally taken on a trip to Rome in 2004. I was shooting witha pro-sumer Fuji S7000 at the time, but wasn;t really up to speed on photoshop and didn't do much with the shots. I came across them the other day as I was setting my library up on Lightroom, and decided to rework some of them. Here's two of my faves:The forum
St Peter's
If anyone is interested, the full set is here. It was definitely an interesting exercise, if only to see how much my photography has come on in 6 years, and how much image quality from digital cameras has improved!
My Copperband Butterfly fish.
Check out this thieving goldfinch. He pulls the petals off the top of my sunflowers to give him room to bend down and steal the seeds. I have a half-dozen big sunflowers, and they're all torn up by this guy (and his wife)!OK, I guess I don't really mind too much...

oh, I love this, it's so cool!
An impromptu visit to Glacier Park yielded these. (Usually i'm skunked)
^They were fighting over the salt lick^
^Hoary Marmot^
^Mule Deer^ (i believe)All of the above were taken on a short hike at Logan Pass.
Wow, Pix, those are awesome! You shoulda kept them to enter into a Wildlife contest when it comes up! Simply beautiful work! Can't believe they seem to all be so close to you. Did you use a very long lens?

I saved a few better ones for just that purpose.

Awwww, thanks! Actually they were just that close. I'm a beginning photographer, and shoot with a Canon PowerShot, with no special lenses. I rely on being able to get very close to my subjects.
Wow, I love these shots!
No taken on the same day but still here they are. :)
An off-shoot from yesterday's 365 challenge shoot that I ended up not using as I wasn't sure about the composition. But I still quite like it! :-)
I was commissioned to take an official portrait of the General Manager of the UK's Air Traffic Control Centre in Scotland this week. I took loads of shots and she even came equipped with 3 changes of clothing!
She was happy with many of the shots but I think this will be the one used. Techie details...Canon 5D, f/8 1/160 sec, ISO 100One 300W studio mono-block with umbrella high to camera right and another one 2-stops brighter on the background.
Thanks for sharing the details Clive! I've got a new white background to play with and I'm struggling a bit on lighting it correctly. As always, you've done a nice job here!
Thanks Craig :-) I always use a hand held seiko light meter when I'm using my studio lights. I set the power on the main light until the light meter registered f/8 and then it was simply a case of setting the power on the background light until the meter read f/16. With the camera set to f/8 I got the right exposure on the subject and 2-stops over on the background.
Love the detail in the eyes, soo perfect
My last lit photos for a while :(While we were doing this, a strong gust of wind managed to catch the umbrella and knocked the light over with breakage as a result. Sigh.:(
meerkat saidwith breakage as a result.
Bummer, dude! That sucks.Very nice shots though. I especially like the one taken from above.
Great shots meerkat. Do you have insurance cover for your equipment (or it may possibly be covered by your household insurance?)
No unfortunately I don't, and I fear that my limited home insurance won't cover this type of damage, especially not when it happened outside. It's definitely something I can look into though, your suggestion gives me some hope at least.Other than that, all I can do is be glad it wasn't my camera that was broken, and rejoice in Fate's blessed message that I need to get more business.
Quality shots there meerkat. Style - big time!
I did a wedding on the bonny banks of Loch Lomond yesterday.I've spent most of today working through over 700 photographs in preparation for putting the wedding book together.Anyway, for all you ladies who like to see a man in a kilt, I thought you might like this one...
Nice, What tartan is the groom wearing?
I haven't got a clue!
