All skill levels are welcome. If, say, you got clay for Christmas, this would be an excellent contest to get your feet wet (you know who you are).

I probably want to do this, but I have to ask two questions first:
1. Can we paint the clay?
2. Can there be scenery items not clay (leaves, grass, braches, water, or other animal residental items)?

1. Yes, but only for base color and highlights. Like, if you do a snake, you can paint it green and paint the details in the eyes, but the scales must be modeled in the clay, not painted on.

2. Yes.

:)

Awesome. Sounds like fun. I'm in. :)

3/15? I'm in.

That gives me time to actually open up the package and start noodling with it.

Would polymer clay theoretically be okay, too?

Global CouncilArena AdminKookaburra said 2 years ago 1/16/2010 11:27:54 AM EDT

Polymer clay is where it is at! Yes, I use polymer and I think mennufer does also.

Global CouncilArena AdminKookaburra said 2 years ago 1/16/2010 11:28:35 AM EDT

WOW!!! Arsi entering a contest! I would be honored to lose to the legend. ;)

Actually I would be surprised if anyone used real clay.

Does this mean you're in? :)

Me too please

I would say I'm in, but I just checked the FAQ to make sure I could, and I'm actually not allowed in (haven't participated in 5 MM contests). So hopefully next time.

Actually, it is 5 contests in any genre - does not have to be multimedia.

But I see you only have 2 entries - both to BoTS finals. If it is acceptable to mennufer (this is her contest after all), I believe we could make an exception for you, as making it to the BoTS final demonstrates that you follow through. It is almost like make 30 entries for each of those months. The main purpose of the 5 contests rule is so people don't come in, sign up and then disappear. Five contests shows a little stick-to-it-ness.

But it is mennufer's final call.

mennufer said 2 years ago 1/16/2010 6:20:38 PM EDT

I'm cool with it. Just as long as you let me win. :P

The requirement used to be 5 stars but I guess that's kind of hard to come by anymore.

HeyDoofus said 2 years ago 1/17/2010 1:51:56 AM EDT

Count me in, too, please!

Do they have to be real animals, or can they be "out of my imagination"?

Actually, anything I make will be more like "out of someone's nightmare", but you get the idea, I think.

Johnrmcconnell said 2 years ago 1/17/2010 2:05:16 AM EDT

A few questions....

Can you use Super Sculpy.....
Can the sculpted piece be painted and "shaded" (assuming the details are sculpted in)
Can the animal be fantasy based? more "character" than an animal found in nature?

gabrielwings said 2 years ago 1/17/2010 5:49:31 AM EDT

Okay, in that case: count me in! :D
(we'll see about the 'letting you win' - part. I don't think I'll have to try very hard for that, so rest assured :P)

As a noob, please explain to me why you couldn't. Would this give you some sort of unfair advantage?

I assumed that when Noofs use the word "clay", she used it in a generic, all-encompassing way. Meaning if I wanted to use silly putty or papier mache, I could, m i rite?

I just wanted clarification...as that is my weapon of choice! I didn't want to spend time on an entry only to have it shot down for not following the most basic of rules.

any clarification on fantasy, or character based?

mennufer said 2 years ago 1/17/2010 12:30:04 PM EDT

Okay, let's get this all squared away (so many frakkin' questions for the words "clay animals" - sheesh!).

Animals: as in "any organism(s) from the Kingdom Animalia". This includes organisms such as dolphins, hamsters, millipedes, penguins, jellyfish, dinosaurs, and sponges. Ask Wiki if you don't believe me and my bachelor's in Zoology. You may nightmarize it if you wish, but no griffinification. What? Of course it's a word, gorramit! It means not slapping together body parts from different animals. Although if you want to start a mythical creature contest, count me in. :)

Clay: Sculpey, Play-Doh, salt clay, whatever. Heck, if you want to make your own clay with mud and straw, be my guest. It worked for the Egyptians. No papier mache, though. (Ha!! I said "No" to arsi! :P)

Painting: For color and tiny details only. So, shading would be fine.
