PHOTOSHOP MENTORING PROGRAMPLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE POST BEFORE SIGNING UP!Welcome to the Official Photoshop Mentoring Program Thread! We have a lot of beginning and intermediate Photoshoppers who are full of questions and would thoroughly benefit from some help from more experienced Photoshoppers. I'm sure many of you wouldn't mind getting some teaching experience either! In comes the Mentorship Program! It's modeled after the very successful Photography Mentoring Program (many thanks to Eury for the initial write-up), and I hope that with all your enthusiasm it will turn out just as successful. I will deal with the coordination, keep the lists up to date and notify you of your match-ups.RULES:Mentees:You need to have entered at least TWO Photoshop entries.During your time as mentee (two weeks), you should commit to entering two Photoshop entries that your mentor will help you with, but ONE at the very least. If after these contests you feel you still need help, you can post here again and we will put your name back on the list. Each photoshopper is different and each one will push you to learn different things. You can sign up as a beginner OR as an intermediate. It is up to you what you sign up for, but I might place you in a different group if I think it's in your best interest.Your mentor will only help you with entries for the Photoshop Training Grounds, Advanced Photoshop contests or Photoshop Head2Head contests. NO Corporate contests. You will receive a site message once you have been matched up with a mentor. Please check your inbox in the upper right hand corner of the page to see your messages. Mentors are volunteers, generous enough to give you their time and expertise. You do not decide who your mentor will be, you will be assigned one. You owe them respect. Do not bombard them with images. They will tell you how many to send, how often; please respect their wishes. Please do not be insulted by a mentor's critiques. They are there to help you. If you give a mentor any trouble or disrespect, your relationship will be terminated. You will not be allowed back on the list for a period of 60 days. If it happens more than once, you will no longer be added to the list at all.Mentors:You must have at least one trophy in the Advanced arena in the FX effects category. I feel uncomfortable assigning mentors I know little about. I won't set a hard limit, but if you only have a few entries it might be best to grow a little accustomed to Worth first, before mentoring someone. You will be paired with your mentee for a period of 2 weeks. During those weeks you engage yourself to helping your mentee with 2 contests. After the period of 2 contests (not extending 2 weeks), you no longer have any responsibilities toward your mentee.Make sure the advice you are giving to your mentee follows the contest guidelines and Worth Photoshop rules. You may also give advise how to do things differently, besides how it would be done in a particular contest, just make sure your mentee doesn't enter something that does not follow the rules. If your mentee, in any way, shape or form gives you any problems, please message me and the relationship will be severed. You will receive a site message once you have been matched up with a mentee. Give constructive advice and remember that your student may be a complete beginner. It's important for you to be patient and understanding. If you wish to be a mentor again after the period is over, please sign up in this thread again and we will put you back on the list. Thank you very much for your time and help!EFFECTIVE JUNE 11, 2010:The most frequent problem encountered with the mentoring program is the mentee never making contact with the mentor after being set up. If you are going to request a mentor, you should know what your time constraints are for the next two weeks before you ever ask for a mentor. You should be able to devote two full weeks to this program in order to get the maximum benefit. The guidelines of the 2 weeks and 2 entries are not established for our benefit - they are for you. The mentors are all asked if they are available to devote their time to teaching before an assignment is made. The mentors have a lot of knowledge to share with you and they are volunteering their time to help. It is only common courtesy that you respond to them and take the full advantage of the skills and advice that they are willing to share with you. The mentors have jobs and families and other responsibilities, just like you. Please do not waste their valuable time.We realize that there are always exceptions and life does get in the way of photoshopping. If this is the case, please advise your mentor and the program administrator that you need to drop out so that the mentors time can be reassigned to someone else.I always hate to put restrictions on anyone but I am placing a new rule in effect immediately. If the mentee does not make contact with his/her mentor within two days of assignment, they will be dropped from that assignment and banned from the mentoring program for a period of one month. This will also apply if the mentee ceases to remain in contact during the two week period and the mentor notifies the administrator that communication has stopped.First and foremost, the mentor program is meant to be a fun and meaningful exchange of ideas and knowledge and can often result in the mentee winning their first trophy, medal or gold star! Please post in this thread if you would like:-to mentor a beginner (you must have at least one trophy in the Advanced arena of the FX Effects.)-to mentor an intermediate (you must have at least one trophy in the Advanced arena of the FX Effects)-to mentor either a beginner or an intermediate (same average requirement)-a mentor and you are a beginning Photoshopper-a mentor and you are an intermediate PhotoshopperYou can be both mentor and mentee.
