Happy New Year!Well, it's been a heck of a year. In 2010, we increased the contest frequency in Illo and made eligibility mostly-self governed, but this didn't quite sort out the different wants and needs of our users: 1) Beginners who graduate miss out on the "just for fun" contests, 2) The frequency of new Beginner themes is better, but they're still too long. So, for 2011, we're introducing:The Sandbox arena!Yes, this is serious. Okay, well, it's silly, too.In the Sandbox, you'll find the fun, goofy, humorous/witty, worth-related, and experimental themes. We're talking MS Paint, hand turkeys, sidewalk chalk, animated gifs, and boobs here. - The rules? Rules are for suckas. Just no photos and tracing and the usual bits about stealing and such (the point is to win by your idea, not someone else's). - Open to all, although awards and credits are the same as Beginners. - Unlike other contests, the goal for Sandbox is the vote on the merits of how well the entry fits the theme and cleverness and humor, not necessarily just technique.Illustration topic changes:Advanced: No changes. Still every two weeks.Beginners: No changes to rules or current eligibility, but they will now run for only one week. Concentration will be on developing techniques and exploration of medias.Sandbox: Will run for one week. The goal is to have a relatively unrestrained place to play.Beginners and Sandbox will alternate, so you'll have (approximately) two themes for each arena per month.- Contests and forums and home pages will be coming soon. -
IT'S LIKE MSPAINTWARS ALL YEAR ROUND!!! XD

THis may mean that I will move out of my clinch hold on last place in illo! Cool.
Oh hey, guess what, The Sandbox starts next week. Now, nik and I have a few themes we'd like to see, but, based on your guess as to what the heck we've been smoking The Sandbox is, what themes would YOU like to see?You may use this thread. Also, if you have to start explaining your theme with more than 5 words, it's probably too serious.
Am I doing this right?
Yessir.(Just so happens we have an advanced steampunk contest going on right now!)We shall take suggestions outside of the box of media, too. "Public Crayoning." "Cut and Paste."There has been actual H2Hs in the past like "Paint with your Feet," "Cats that look like Hitler Tribute," and "Single Handprint" that could serve as inspiration. Gold in them hills.
...and lorem's boob comment started a bandwagon in BotS. XD
Sounds like a lot of fun. :)
Ummm, why not start out with a "sandbox" for the first theme? (Yep running away now - ha) ;)

Drawing using text In microsoft word.

Wouldn't origami be multimedia?other than that I'd love to see an origami contest :)How about painting with natural paint? like using coffee for brown, hot sauce for red, blueberry for purple, etc.

I completely agree, and I realised that myself, which is why I came into this thread again, before I read your thread! But thanks for pointing out my drastic brain-burp!
Right, we'll try to keep this as 2D as possible to make sure MM gets all the 3D fun. But! Wait... now... if origami animals were flattened... yes."Origami Roadkill"
Only if my cat can create an account.
Something like the Toe fluff.
Stick Figure Theater (animated?)Intolerably Cute Notebook and Napkin Drawings
Food painting, yes! Or would that also be multimedia?
