Ok, so I found the perfect source image but am uncertain about the model release thing. Of course this is way to close to the deadline I'm working against. What do I do? Anyone around to give some advice?
Hunt more sources. If you dont have release, you dont have the rights, so you can be dq ed in worth and sued in real life.Harsh, but i think it s the best advice i can give you.Good luck.
Delpht is right. You don't have a release, you can't use the source.
Allright, thanks guys! I'll put this one to rest now since I won't have time to hunt for another source. Anyhow I got some good practice out of it.
This would also be a good time to practice approaching people to ask for permission to use an image(and for the model release.)(I believe this is how it works, though I've never done it myself.)If you are contacting a photographer who is not the parent, you'll need to ask if he'll/she'll give you the model rights as well (if the person is a minor it is necessary for use on Worth. See if they'll forward you a copy of the model release form.) Also, even if they forward you the model release form (they're name will probably be on the release, so you'll need to also be able to show that the photographer is giving you the right to use the image as well.)If you are contacting a photographer who is the parent, you'll want to ask for their permission to use the minor in your chop.----------------And once you have those and you can use the image, then you can start a HxH challenge to show off your new creation.

I was about to do that but realized I was running out of time with my work for the contest at hand. It's solid advice though, thanks! Don't think I'll put up an HxH for my creation but if this contest runs again I guess I'll have about six months time to get my model release. :)
Another Question about Child Model Release. What if I wanted to chop a 1980's picture of a child? The kid is now a grown up do I need to seek permission in this case?
+ in reply to...
Yes.
What if the kid is really, really ugly-so much so that no parent would want to claim it as their own.
So true. What about ugly people from the 1850's who are the end of a blood line.
Make the child wear a huge, head-enveloping, fur hat. :D
I give you permission to use this image of my adopted daughter if you like.

You're on to me
Phew! That thread title had me worried - for a minute I thought someone had discovered that I have Heidi Klum tied up in my cellar
What about model releases where you're just using the child's body but you can't see the face -like you do a face swap (to make a goblin for instance) or the face is completely obstructed by a mask, etc--is it necessary to get a release in this case?

In most cases no. I won't say never, but usually if the face is completely obscured, it's OK without a model release.
