Against the council of the village Elders, Kimbo had followed the trail of the Beast.
“What you seek to do is impossible.” Elbor the clan chief said. “If you can track it, it will hear you and if you catch it, it will kill you.”
Kimbo responded,“You are wrong Elbor. I will track it. I will find it and I will kill it and return Kardi to us.”

Kimbo's tracking skills were put to the test as she followed the Beast for the rest of that day and all through the night. She was surprised that a creature so large could leave almost no trail. Kimbo carefully moved damp leaves aside and looked down on the Beast that she was hunting. It stood at least five feet at the shoulder, its thick front legs ending in three sharp claws. The Beast's hind legs were shorter that its front legs. From its shoulders to it's hips ran a double row of sharp fins. The head of the Beast was massive and was topped by two bat like ears. A single large curved horn thrust out above its heavy brow. Glowing green eyes looked out from deep sockets. It's mouth, when closed, looked almost human. It was open now, showing rows of sharp teeth that Kimbo knew could strip the flesh from a mans arm in one pull. The long gray tongue lolled out of its mouth and dropped thick streamers of hot saliva onto the face of the terrified girl between its front paws.

As Kimbo fitted an arrow to the string of her bow she silently uttered a prayer.
“Oh Farcomac, greatest of Hunters. Guide my skills and guide my hunt.”
With that Kimbo stood and with one fluid movement drew and loosed the arrow towards the Beast. There was a second arrow in the air before the first had reached the Beast. She was through the bushes and running down towards the creature as the first arrow struck. Farcomac had answered her prayer. The arrow had struck the Beast just behind one of it's ears. When it reared in pain, the second arrow hit just under the front leg and sank into it's chest.
“Kardi! Move!” Kimbo yelled and readied her spear. She threw herself in front of the terrified girl and braced the spear on the ground. She cried at the Beast, “Come try me you foul creature. You shall have no more of my people.”

Kimbo held her ground as the Beast raised it self up and lunged at her. It's claws tore deep furrows in her arms as it dropped to all fours. Kimbo's spear bent as it met the Beasts chest, it looked as if it would break. Then the tip cut through the thick hide, slipped between its ribs and pierced the Beasts heart. Kimbo was knocked back as the Beast tried to bite her as its final living act. She watched the Beasts death throws and saw the glow leave its eyes as it gave a final shudder.

Kardi knelt beside Kimbo and looked in awe at her rescuer. Kimbo smiled and said, “Sister, I have kept my word and you are safe. Go over the rise and get my pack. I need it so we can bind my wounds.”
As Kardi went to find the pack, Kimbo ignoring her pain, drew her knife and moved to the Beast. She placed her knife at the base of the horn saying, “Farcomac has blessed my hunt. I take your horn as proof of my kill.” When she is finished cutting out the horn she found Kardi ready with a poultice and cloths to cover her wounds.

Kimbo and Kardi left the forest two days later. They found their village mourning the loss of the two sisters. The villagers saw them and called to Elbor to come and greet the two. Upon seeing Elbor, Kimbo walked boldly towards him holding up the Beasts horn.
“See Elbor! I bear the Horn of the Beast as proof of my kill. I swear before Farcomac that I did slay the Beast and free my sister,” she paused and looked around, “By right of my successful hunt I claim the right to be called MAC. For I have slain a Beast as a lone hunter.”

Elbor raised his voice so all could hear him, “For slaying a Beast as a lone hunter. You shall now be know as Kimbomac or as Kimbo the Hunter.” Cheers and shouts of joy erupted at this announcement.
Kimbomac kept the horn of the Beast above her mantle for the rest of her life. She had many more successful hunts and covered her mantle with the horns of the many beasts that she had faced and defeated.
