Jack and the Bean Stalk by JaxomLOTUS
22nd place entry in Alternate Endings

Jack looked up to the sky in amazement and horror. Where the beans had been planted only yesterday, now stood the largest, tallest beanstalk he'd ever seen.

It was so tall, in fact, that it reached up into the sky, far above the clouds. So tall, that Jack could not even see the top.

Just then the mysterious old man who'd traded Jack the beans stepped out from behind the barn, zippering his trousers.

"Your destiny lies at the top of this great bean stalk, young man," he smiled. "I told you the trade was worth it." From behind the barn a goat bleated.

Jack looked up again. He never liked heights, but what if the old man was right? What if his destiny really was at the top of bean stalk?

Without thinking twice, he grabbed the closest branch and started to climb. And climb. And climb. And climb.

Finally, just as dusk began to settle in he reached the clouds. As he pulled himself above the cloud he saw a magnificent castle in the distance, a castle so large that no mortal man could have built it.

"My destiny must lie in the castle!" thought Jack. He let go of the stalk and started walking on the fluffy cloud towards the castle. Unfortunately the cloud was actually an acid rain cloud, and his body began disintegrating from his feet up, and turned into a steaming, stinking pile of mulch.

THE END.
