Author's Note: First and foremost, a very BIG thank you to oilcorner for all his invaluable help - I cannot stress enough how great it was to have a fresh pair of knowledgeable eyes looking over my shoulder at this thing.
This image started out inspired by the Saint-Saens music - Death playing his fiddle at the stroke of midnight and calling all the skeletons to dance - but ended up a bit closer to the medieval allegory, where Death leads all - young, old, rich, poor, sinner, saint - to the grave. Cheerful, eh? :D
