There is Never going to be a day when I wake up and forget I live in a box used to store decaying organic matter. The moment I wake up, I feel the squishy yet soft pillow of decomposing wood nestling my head inside it. I hear the sounds of a million blurry cars racing past me on the rain-soaked Chicago streets. I taste the soft metal tinge of my own blood in my mouth, and realize during my sleep I must have bitten my tounge. but that still is no excuse not to smile.
You might say I'm crazy. You might say I'm blind to the chaos going on around me. To answer the naysayers who asked those two questions, I only say that it is not what happens around you that matters, it is the way that you look at the situation that matters. And then begins the most important part.
Did you know that the top minds at the University of Chicago have actually proved that when you smile, neurons in the brain start firing and cells in the brain start producing dopamine, a chemical that is associated with happiness? Simply, Smiling actually makes you feel better inside. This was in the newspaper just yesterday, which has now been torn into even strips for next months supply of toilet paper. If you doubt me, why don't I prove it to you? Try and smile.
Are you feeling better? Good!
Unlike the others out here on the streets, I don't need any drugs to make me smile. I cant help but grinning. I have my own secret little drug, a drug that I don't have to pay for and that has no bad side effects. It's called smiling. And I hope I can share it with you.
