The mother beavaro root is very protective of her clutch of offspring, but not for the reasons you think!
These unfortunate little plantimals have no legs and have a hard time hunting for food.
Therefore, they have evolved into cannibals, and must produce young several times a year in order to augment the meager diet of the parents and the one offspring chosen to survive into adulthood to continue this strange little species.
