1st place entry in Sightings of Galoot

Dear Editor;
I am 8 years old, and some of my little friends say that Galoot does not exist.
Papa says that if it says so in Worth, then it must be so.

So please tell me, Is there a Galoot?
Virginia O’Hanlon,
115 West Ninety Fifth Street.

Virginia, your little friends are wrong. Galoot does exist.

I know what you are talking about. You see him everywhere. I know I do. Sometimes the reflection in the mirror. Sometimes a complete stranger crossing the street or even in the face of the little old lady you helped with her cat that cold rainy night last September. All but one of us may see him in dusty old photos long forgotten in the basement.

But sure as love and faith and chewing tobacco and marzipan and roosters and bacon and sunshine and pixies and onions and DDT and rainbows and summertime and Styrofoam and daisies and unicorns exist, then he must exist.
Galoot exists as surely as any one of us exists. We see him in each and every one of our hearts.
