The Fountain by Ebonheart
6th place entry in Bonus: Poetry - Monorhyme 2

Was it a fountain that God had made?
The sunbeams through the droplets played
Children would laugh and get wet as they’d wade
And once a day it would sleep in the shade

I remember beside the fountain she stayed
The sun down her hair in a breathless glissade
Which was brighter – the sun or the maid?
Her hands were together as, weeping, she prayed

I ran to embrace her, but her eyes were afraid
The doubt in them left my soul sorely flayed
It was then I discovered she knew that I’d strayed
Each drip of the fountain seemed a bit more delayed

My golden-haired beauty from that moment did fade
She could not accept that she had been betrayed
And soon in the dark earth her coffin was laid
And angels through rainbows in fountains parade
