One day Hammy and Bacony were out playing in their pig muddle, rolling and wrestling in the cool mud having a good time.
Hammy stopped for a moment and said “I’m bored. I want to find a new trick for my pig muddle.”
Bacony said “What do you mean?”
“Something different,” Hammy said. “I just want to do something different, something special.”
Bacony said “Well, the circus is in town. Maybe we could go there and you could learn something new.”
Hammy said “Yeah, that sounds like fun.”
So Hammy borrowed the motorcycle from Cocoa (the cow who gives out chocolate milk) and Bacony jumped on the back and off they went.
When they got to the circus, Hammy’s stomach started to growl when he smelled the popcorn, and the nachos, and the hot dogs so of course the first thing they had to do was get snacks. With arms full of food they made their way into the big top. They found a seat and started to watch. The circus is always exciting.
First came the clowns. Hammy and Bacony laughed when the clowns fell down and did handstands. They did all kinds of silly tricks that just made Hammy laugh and laugh. One of them even came up to Hammy and squirted him in the face with a fake flower.
Hammy said, “I’ve got it!’
Bacony said, “Got what?”
Hammy said, “I’ve got my new trick for my pig muddle!”
Bacony said, “Hammy, if you are thinking about the clowns, that won’t work. If you are planning on taking some clowns back to the pig muddle, they’ll get all muddy and won’t be happy in the mud like we are. And if you are planning on being a clown, that won’t work either. Trying to be a clown in the mud would not work well.”
Hammy agreed. “Oh well, it was just an idea. Let’s keep watching.”
Next came the trapeze artist. Hammy and Bacony stared as the man swung back and forth, flinging himself from one trapeze to another, doing flips in the air, twisting and turning in every direction. They squealed with glee at his act.
Hammy said, “I’ve got it!’
Bacony said, “Got what?”
Hammy said, “I’ve got my new trick for my pig muddle!”
Bacony said, “Hammy, if you are thinking about doing the trapeze act that does not make any sense. You would have to have it swinging far above the mud and then you wouldn’t really be doing the act in the pig muddle. If you lowered it enough to be in the mud then it wouldn’t swing and you couldn’t do all the tricks.”
Hammy said, “Yeah, you’re right. We’ll keep watching.”
Then a man came out and walked across the big top, waving at the crowd. Hammy and Bacony both watched him to see what he would do. He made his way to a ladder and started to climb… and climb… and climb… Hammy kept watching the man climb higher and higher. At first he was excited but after some time he started to yawn and get bored. The man still climbed… and climbed… up… and up.
Finally the man reached the top, waved to the crowd and JUMPED. Hammy and Bacony both gasped and squealed. “What is he doing!?!?” they both yelled.
They watched as the man fell… and fell… and fell… all the way down until he landed with a HUGE splash right in the middle of a very small little pool. The man stood up unhurt and waved to the crowd. Hammy and Bacony both clapped very loudly.
Hammy suddenly stopped and yelled, “I’ve got it!” He grabbed Bacony by the hoof and dragged him out to Cocoa’s motorcycle.
Bacony was saying “What? What?” but Hammy just threw him on the back of the motorcycle and took off, racing back to the farm.
When the got to the farm, Hammy jumped off and went running to the pig muddle saying “I’ve got my new trick!” the whole way. Bacony just kept saying, “Hammy, NO! No. No. No. Hammy, NO!” but Hammy was not listening. All the farm animals, the cows, including Cocoa, the ducks, the horses and all the rest gathered around the pig muddle excited to see what was going on.
Hammy threw on a cape and ran over to the barn and started climbing the side of it. Bacony was below him the whole time saying “Hammy, you can’t!” but Hammy just kept going. He reached the top of the barn and went right to the very top point of the roof. He stood and waved to all the animals gathered around below with a big smile on his face. Bacony just covered his eyes and said “I can’t watch.”
Hammy jumped off the top of the barn and cannonballed right into the middle of his pig muddle. Mud flew EVERYWHERE. It hit the cows, and the ducks, and the trees, and the fence, and Farmer John, and the barn… all with a great big splash. Hammy laughed and laughed and laughed. Cocoa wiped the mud from here eyes and wandered off back into the field shaking her head. Bacony just sighed.
Happy to finally learn a new trick, Hammy took off his cape, laid back in his pig muddle next to Bacony and said “I’m tired.” All of the running around at the circus had made him sleepy.
Laying on his back with his little piggy feet in the air, he said “Good night, world.” And he went to sleep because he was tired.
The End.
