Beautiful Treachery by MaraMcGregor
11th place entry in A Wintry Scene

White, fluffy snow fell upon the ground and roadways. The beautiful sight, glittered in the afternoon’s setting sun. Stray beams fell through the tree branches and bathed the snow and ice in its glow. Where the light did not hit, the ice gleamed a frigid blue.

The ice and snow on the road was gradually becoming dingier as the cars eked by, trying not to slip on the treacherous surface. The snow and ice was marred in the middle of the roadway, black pavement peaking through where tires had tried and failed to dig into the surface. The winding black marks on the beige road led directly to a large blaze.

Metal was twisted, deformed about itself. The two previously separate vehicles were now bound together through momentum and the raging heat of fire. A back window was shattered, broken glass glittering amongst the ice. Something had been thrown out from the backseat on impact of the two metallic cages of death.

A cry came from a large, fluffy snowdrift. It was a stark reminder that even in the dead of winter, there was life.

Author's Note:

Over the past month, car's overturned and crashed into trees are the most common things I've seen while driving.
